Sunday 30th October – Race 2 West Yorks. Cross Country League, Nunroyd Park

Report from the Hon. Handicapper;

Warm, for late October, mostly very dry underfoot conditions made it fast going at Nunroyd Park.  Lots of work adding several hard core paths across the park meant a few minor alterations to the traditional course.

The women’s race was 1 shorter lap and 2 long laps, totally about 4 miles.  Sara Elliott and Caron Ralph ran together for the first lap, before Sara gradually moved through the field to finish in 72nd in 30:53.  Caron battled through for 88th, 32:29.  Katie Walshaw from Holmfirth H. won a competitive race in 23:33.

The men’s race of 1 shorter & 4 long laps, of just under 7 miles was won by Dan Garbutt for the host club Skyrac AC in 36:50.  I was happy with a 45th place finish, 42:19, next in for Otley was Tom Lynch 65th, 43:34,  Billy Rayner 161st, 1:00:56,  and Antonio Cardinale 165th, 1:15:28.  Full results here.

Results from race 1 at Thornes Park, Wakefield on the 2nd October:  Women’s, 1st Charlene Thomas, Wakefield 20:05, 58th Sara Elliott 26:58.  Men’s, 1st Dan Garbutt, 32:45, 161st Billy Rayner 53:41, 169th Antonio Cardinale 1:10:43.  Full results here.

    Like in Wakefield Sara E. had another powerful performance , she is indeed coming back to a good shape after the bike accident , her 30.53 is a great time . Also Caron R. ran a solid race in 32.29 a good result in a very competitive field , and Andrew R. looked like he was flying when he passed me , his 42.19 for this long route is a fantastic time , and new Mr President Billy R. is running strongly after his injury , his1.00.56 is super .

    Forgotten how brutally fast XC is and the standard is high, which means hard work! 4 miles seemed like 40 on Sunday. Well done Sara for a solid run and all our men for having to run further!
