Saturday 30th September – Firth Fell Race

Report from Matt Podd

43 runners toed the line on the village green in Buckden for the inauguaral running of this race. Organised by the Wharfedale National Trust and going up onto the ridge opposite the pike. Very wet underfoot and a bit of clag on top, but a fair day. The 7.8 mile route started with a steep climb up to the Firth Fell trigpoint and then we went south along the ridge to drop down to Starbotton and back up the Dales way. The bit along the river back to Buckden seemed never ending, but a good new race. Tim Chadwick and Kirsty Hall won in 62 & 67 Minutes. Full results to follow, but Dave T beat me.

  1. I did the Buckden Pike few months ago and the place is beautiful , I did not know about this new fell race of 7,8 mile , from your report it looks like a tough fell race , but I would like to have a go at it next time . Well done to Matt P. for the hard running .
