Sunday 5th November – Abbey Dash 10k

This years Abbey Dash took me back to where it all started. Back in 2007 I was signed up for a corporate team and spent about 4 months pounding up and down the A65 trying to regain some fitness after the excesses of Uni and years of no exercise. I came over the line in 45 mins 50 secs that day.

Fast forward to 2017 and I’m back on the start line. After a less than satisfying summer of running I wasn’t too confident about the estimated 38 minute finish time I put down on the form a few weeks earlier.

As the race started I settled in to a steady 10km rhythm with the other c.12,000 runners heading towards the Abbey. As I reached Kirkstall Leisure Centre the front runners were passing on their way back towards the Town Hall. I tried to pick up the pace for the return leg and managed a 5min 55sec mile for mile 5. I made it over the line with 3 seconds to spare on my 38 minute prediction and bagged myself a 10km PB for the year.

Sam Stabler was the first over the line in a super quick time of 29m 13s. There was a good turnout for Otley across the Juniors and Seniors and results can be found here.

It is good to see Julian M. back in action in this classic 10k , his 42.32 is a fast time . Congratulations to Gary J. for his PB. achieved in 37.57 , although it is a more astonishing result the 45.50 that day , where it all started . Also Sarah P. and Amy J . ran a nice Abbey Dash together in a good 1.04 . Well done all .
