Sunday 5th November – Guy Fawkes 10

Report from Billy Rayner

Blue skies and sunshine greeted the Otley contingent that travelled to Ripley for the Guy Fawkes 10 although it was rather chilly. After a mile running through the woods we were able to run on roads where the congestion eased and we could get into our stride. The course followed the usual inclines (Birstwith Brute, Swincliffe Swine and For Fawkes Sake) going through the villages of Birstwith, Tang and Hampsthwaite before heading back through the woods towards Ripley Castle. The Otley ladies were out in force with Vicky Stainburn continuing her great form finishing 7th lady in 1:10:27 (all chip times) closely followed by Louise Williams (1:17:38) and Sara Elliott (1:18:06) and claiming fifth ladies team. Next lady home for Otley was Laura Hind (1:34:56) followed by Sara Richard (1:35:07), Joanna Hobson (1:35:50), Debra Brown (1:45:09), Tash Whittaker (1:52:06) and birthday girl Laurel Frear (1:55:24) competing in her first 10 mile race after progressing from the beginners group. Unfortunately we did not have enough men for a team with only myself and John Davis the sole representatives. John was first home in 1:30:40 closely followed by Andrew Rayner in 1:31:57. Second claim members Mohammad Abubakr (1:12:51) and Tony Pfeiffer (1:26:44) were running for 1st claim club Airecentre Pacers.

The race was won by Andrew Grant (Harrogate Harriers) in 56:02 and 1st lady was Tanya Blake (Stainland Lions) in 1:07:16.

  1. Congratulations to Laurel F. for her birthday and well done indeed for her first 10 miles finished in a nice 1.55 , having done this race a couple of time in the past I know well it is quite hilly , not flat at all . Also Vicky S. did a powerful race and you can tell from the pic she is indeed flying , her feet do not touch the ground . As well Joanna H. had a strong run . Well done to everybody .
