Sunday 17th December – Ken Dixon Handicap

Congratulations to Don for a clear win in the 29th Ken Dixon Christmas handicap and to Rob Fearnley taking the overall title for 2017.  Laura did here best to catch Rob finishing 4th on the day but will be satisfied with 2nd 9 points behind.  Followed by Billy and Antonio in joint 3rd.  See the final 2017 Eric Smith handicap table here.

Argh.. I have just remembered that it was Phil Robinson’s 200th Otley handicap race today.  The first being way back in January 1989 at the Sun Inn, apologies Phil a bottle of wine waiting for you at the next one.

It all starts again on January 20th at the John Cowan Harewood Handicap,  which coincides with a former president’s 75th birthday.

  1. Nice one Rob and well deserved. Fantastic achievement to take the overall lead so early on in the year and maintain it until the end to win !

  2. A big thanks to Andrew for his most honourable handicapping this year! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the handicaps in 2017 and am no longer scared of being chased down like lame quarry as I once was! It’s been fun battling it out & watching the points and positions changing monthly, as well as all the banter with ‘3 Recce Rob’ and El Presidente! If you’ve not ‘handicapped’ before, I can’t recommend these races enough – free for all club members, sociable and a surefire way to improve your running!

  3. I agree with Sean that it was a fantastic achievement from Rob F. winning with merit the Eric S. Championship , congratulations to Rob . Congratulations as well to Phil R. for running the 200th handicap races , an extraordinary amount that very few runners can achieve .

  4. Congratulations to Donald B. for winning the Ken Dixon Race with a strong performance and a good time of 48.46 . It is good to see Malcolm back running with us with a solid time of 40.21 . Our club President Billy R. did a fast race in 42.21. Coming back from injury a wise Andrew R. ran a ” slow ” Christmas race in 41.49 , almost the same time that I did in 2001 when I won the Eric S. Championship . Well done everyone

  5. Well done to Rob, Laura and Antonio for a closely fought series competed in the right spirit. A total of 108 people took part over the year which shows it is an important part not only of the race calendar but also of the social calendar. Rob a true champ. Knew he had some bad runs on the way to the title, but manned up and came back stronger instead looking for excuses. Although the two recces of Stainburn didn’t quite work to plan 😉
