Sunday 17th December – The Stoop Fell Race

Report from Victoria Stainburn:

There were a few Otley vests out for the second to last Woodentops race on Sunday. It was very cold, icy and raining. The car park was like a skating rink. We were told at the start that due to weather and conditions the route would be slightly different and shorter. Straight up to the stoop and back again. The ground was horrendously boggy and at times we were thigh deep in mud. Having said this, many runners around me appeared to love the conditions. Personally I was glad to reach the top with the knowledge I was halfway there! The descent was welcome despite leaping over streams, bogs and avoiding oncoming runners.
The race was won by Harry Holmes from Pudsey and Bromley with a time of 31.07. First Lady back for the 3rd year in a row was Nichola Jackson from Ribble Valley with a time of 35.08.
Fantastic results for the Otley runners – Vicky Stainburn 93rd (8th lady) 42.55, Chris Stacey 99th 43.38, Laura McCabe 114th (13th lady) 45.15, Louise Williams 115th (14th lady) 45.16, Sharron Smith 121st (18th lady) 46.19, Andrew Webster 164th 50.32

  1. I agree with Caron R. about the fantastic running by all , in atrocious weather conditions, especially by Vicky S. nowadays one of our top female runners , her time of 42.55 is awesome considering as well the frozen mud and the quagmire that made the under foot disastrous . Well done everybody.
