Wednesday 27th December – Guisborough Woods Fell Race

Report from Laura McCabe:

I was staying with my parents in Guisborough over Christmas and decided to enter the Guisborough Woods race. The race was 5.5 miles long (3 laps) with 1200ft of climbing. The course consisted of a steep hill climb up through an old quarry, a fast underfoot flat section for 1/2 mile along a forest track on the top of the hill before a very muddy steep decent through the trees back to the start.

I finished in 66th place in 51: 59 and Bob Baker finished 171st in 64: 12 ( 219 runners) .

The race was won by Harry Holmes (Pudsey and Bramley) in 36:03. 1st Lady was  Nik Terrega in 45:40 ( York Knavesmire).

  1. It sounds quite a tough race this one , with 1200ft to climb and a steep hill to do 3 times , 51.59 is really good time for this 5.5 miles course , well done to Laura M. Also Bob B. ran a great fell race in 64.12.

  2. Nice one Laura, it’s a tough course, especially that descent! And having to do it 3 times too; it claimed my ankle ligaments one year.
    5th Lady?
