John Cowan Harewood Handicap

John Cowan Harewood Handicap

A week before the North’s finest cross country runners arrive at Harewood.  Otley’s finest took their turn for the first race of this year’s Eric Smith Handicap trophy.  A cold, drizzly morning with icey underfoot conditions didn’t deter a great turnout.  Running her first handicap Laura Johnson held off Tom Hannah,  Ian recorded the fastest time of the day,  but perhaps Bob or Matt’s run in third and fourth was the performance of the day?  Jack’s photo’s to follow.

February’s race is the Eccup Alwoodley Lane approx. 1ok route, Saturday 24th February.  Best to meet at the New Inn and jog to the start, limited parking available at the start.  A few more photos on the club Flickr site here.

  1. Thanks Andrew for your efforts. Fastest I’ve run that course since 2011. Great turnout on a marginal day.

  2. You were flying Matt – great performance! Park run training is working well for you! Thanks Andrew – always a good run up at Harewood.

  3. Top start to the year! Those two hills don’t get any less forgiving but it’s a great course. Good running everyone.

  4. Great event and some excellent performances – but I actually set off with Rob and Joanna so my handicap should show as 11:30.Would you be able to change the results please? Thanks.

  5. A great start to the year, and my first run at Harewood.. found it a challenging course but a good one. Lovely setting for a run with the bonus of seeing a beautiful Stag whilst running round.. A great turnout too on a rather cold day and icy day..
Looking forward to the next one, thank you to the timekeeper and organisers etc

  6. Congratulations to Laura J. for winning the John C. handicap race , the first one of the Eric S. Trophy , also her baby was very fast on the day . Ian Fisher was superb , his 25.10 is magic , when he passed me he was flying . The new girl Laurel F. ran a powerful 5 miles in 48.17 , also Joanna H. ran strongly in 40.21 , her stride was significant of good shape , and kirsty P. is back in great form in a good 36.29 , as well Kath R. is getting stronger , her time of 52.37 is competitive , as I was struggling on the icy underfoot conditions , when I was younger in my fifty’s I used to do this course in around 33 minute , no more PB for me . Well done all .
