Sunday 25th February 2018 – Snake Lane 10

Report from Billy

On a crisp clear morning myself, Sara Elliott, Andy Webster and Rob Fearnley travelled to the far east to take part in the Snake Lane 10 in Pocklington. Keeping warm in the clubhouse we bumped into Sarah Fitzgerald.

After a 10 minute walk to the start we lined up for the off. Following my injury woes I started at the back with Sarah F. Conditions were almost perfect with just a slight breeze to hamper us.

As expected Sara was the frontrunner for the black and whites but I was surprised to find myself passing Andy W after 4.5 miles. Andy had fallen the week before and suffered a rib injury which was hampering his running.

I managed to finish in 586th with a chip time of 1:28:02 closely followed by Andy (593rd) in 1:28:55. Although nearly four minutes slower than last year I was pleased with my pace showing an improvement from the previous week at Liversedge.

Other times were Sara E (316th) 1:17:38, Rob F (709th) 1:35:49 and Sarah F (772nd) 1:38:43.

There were 934 finishers and the race was won by Steven Bateson of East Hull Harriers in 53:40 and first lady (20th overall) was Josephine Stone of Middlesborough AC in 59:23.

  1. Snake Lane 10 is a race that for a reason or another I never came round to do , although in Pocklington in the past around 2002 I did twice the half marathon ‘The Three Villages’. It is a good report by Billy from the race and his running is really improving since the injury , also Andy W. is doing well with a super 1.28 just like our President Billy R. Sara E. did really a superb performance in this 10 miles crossing the finish line in 1.17 , also Sara F. ran well in 1.38 .
