Gargunnock Hill Race – 7.5KM 300m

Graham Lake Reports:

We were stopping off in Stirling on the way back from a gorgeous week further north, so swung by the local agricultural show where a little hill race was going on. After a quick lap of the show-field, following a marshal on a bike and being serenaded by a pipe band the race went up to the highest point on the local hill, similar to many Yorkshire Dales races, where a flag and a piper signaled the high point of the race.

I was going fairly well, but was concerned by the rumbles of thunder and funnel-cloud coming down from the cloud above (eek). The descent was very fast and straight-forward, just down a farmer’s track. I managed to overtake a couple of chaps before the pleasant run back to the show field through some woods.

I finished in 8th place in 35.00

The winner was Mathew Sutherland – Central AC in 31.34

Ladies winner was Isla Cubit in 39.57.

It was pretty low key with only 37 finishers.

  1. Nice work! A shame it’s in Scotland, you’re going to miss out on appearing in the top 10 in Fellrunner magazine.

  2. I agree with Tom L. about it is a shame that this lovely fell race is far away and as well about that you did a superb race , although there were rumbles of thunder coming down from the cloud above , not nice at all . Well done to Graham L. for the Stirling performance .
