Saturday 30th June – Eldwick Gala

Report from Phil Robinson

Our terrific group of female fell-runners – and their male counterparts – must have had a better offer, so it was left to three elderly gentlemen to fly the black-and white flag at Eldwick. Don’t mention summer wine. We all finished in good spirit, the relentless Antonio announcing that he was off to Skiddaw the following day; I was pleased to finish ahead of Graham Breeze for once.

Results: 1stReuben Mantle (Bingley) 18.27, 63rdPhil Robinson 29.33, 68thDon Buffham 32.10, 75thAntomio Cardinale 41.00.

For historical interest, here are some results from this same race in 1992:

1st G. Hornby (Spen) 16.57, 2nd I. Fisher 17.28, 5th A. Robertshaw 18.07, 17th M.Jeffrey 19.27, 39th J. Armitstead 21.14, 62nd P. Robinson 24.16, 67th K.Robertshaw 24.57, 70th T.Hannah (in his first race for the club) 25.27.

Standards seem to be slipping!

  1. In the old result from 1992 is interesting to see the great road runner Ian Fisher doing a fell race with a fabulous time of 17.28 . Compliments to Phil R. for the excellent performance with the time of 29.33 achieving to beat the powerful Graham Breeze from the Wharfedale Harriers . Also Don B. ran well in this short fell race , his time of 32.10 is good indeed .
