ASDA Foundation Leeds 10K, 8 July 2018

Report from Rebecca Rayner

Sunday saw the inaugural outing in the club vest for both me and Claire Larcombe at the ASDA Foundation Leeds 10K, now in its 12th year.

An established event with finely-tuned organisation and supporters out in force throughout the course.  The course started in the city centre and headed out along Kirkstall Road and then Commercial Road.  It turned almost at the point of meeting Kirkstall Lane and headed back into the city centre along largely the same route.

With it being 9 years since I last ran a 10K event and knowing it was going to be a hot one, my only aims were to finish and to enjoy it.  The former I did and the latter came once I had!  There was nowhere to escape the sun on large parts of the course which made it incredibly hot at times – the water stations and sprinklers were a very welcome sight.

All in all a great event to mark my return to running!

There were 5565 finishers (including Ronnie the Rhino in a time of 1:53:26 for any Leeds Rhinos fans).

First male and female runners were…

John Hobbs 32:32
Becky McDonald (City of Hull AC) 39:31

And for Otley AC…

Gavin Burton 43:43
James Rawstron 46:50
Sharon Kenyon 50:31
Claire Larcombe 52:15
Rebecca Rayner 59:11

All chip times.

Apologies to anyone I may have missed.  I took the names and times from the chip timing website, filtering on Otley AC.

  1. Welcome back to running to Rebecca R. and compliments to Claire L. and to Rebecca R. for wearing the club vest for the first time . Running a 10k in 59.11 with this heatwave in Leeds city is good indeed , not bad at all in super hot temperatures . Well done to all .
