Wednesday 5th September – Ilkley Incline

Report from Tom Pom

Last Wednesday saw the most recent leg of my fat dad, post-baby comeback tour at Ilkley Incline. There are few better ways to make yourself feel unfit than running straight up a hill for a mile, but with fell league points up for grabs there was a decent turn out of black and whites, albeit an unusually man-heavy contingent.

Now, this is the bit of the write-up where you normally describe the lovely course and beautiful vistas but this is no normal race and is more simply described as “start running up the hill, keep going when the blood starts pumping out of your eyes and stop when you hit the crowd at the top”.

Weirdly, it was all quite enjoyable and thankfully over relatively quickly. Jack Wood was first back for Ilkely in 7:04 and Ailish Graham was first lady in 9:19.

Otley finishers as follows:

15th Graham Lake 09:02
20th Andy Pullan 09:26
30th Tom Pomfrett 09:47
34th Stephen Boddy 10:01
57th James Rawstron 11:34
64th Colin Best 12:19
68th Matt Podd 13:04
76th Antonio Cardinale 17:37

We also had a number of runners in the junior races. Congratulations to the combined Otley and Harrogate team that were first girls home in the relay.

  1. I have never seen the fell runner Colin B. doing so many races , but as well I have to say that Colin is in a great shape from sometimes now , his 12.19 is outstanding . Also Stephen B. had a formidable 1 mile in 10.01 , he did a strong climb until the 1/2 way to the finish line . Graham L. did an extraordinary Ilkley incline in a super fast 9.02 . Well done everyone.
