Tuesday 11th September – 3000m Handicap ROY Track race 1 & Race 9 Eric Smith Trophy

The wounded but victorious Bob Payne

There was a dramatic finish to the 3ooom.  Bob with a clear lead with less than 100m to go crashed to the track after tripping on the metal track border.  Despite this he quickly got back to his feet to hold off the strong finish from Jenson.  Mark just took the honour of the fastest time of the night with 10.22, just a second quicker than Graham.

The stirling efforts of Bob saw him extend his lead at the top of the Eric Smith trophy with a 30.5 lead over Tom Hannah with Andy Webster another 3 points behind.  Full Handicap table here.  Thanks to Russell Brogden for time keeping duties.

October’s race is the Colin Best Calverley Handicap, Saturday see route map here and more details on the club calendar.

  1. Congratulations to Bob P. for the fantastic victory at race 9 of the Eric S. Trophy , well deserved if considering the heavy fall that poor Bob had near the finish line . The juniors did well indeed Jenson B. ran a fast 11.11 and Aston B. had a good run too in 12.33 . Mark H. did a super 3000 m in 10.22 and Stephen B. was quite strong on the night finishing in 12.09 . Graham L. had a fantastic run in 10.23 not bad at all for a fell runner. Caron R. ran a solid performance in a nice 14.16 , also Joanna H. had an efficient track night with a great time of 14.53 . Alice W. ran well in an encouraging 16.37 , like the powerful Becky H. that went to the finishing line in 11.49 . Well done all.

  2. Thanks for that Mark & Andy, still in the hunt for a medal Andy, Bob looks an odds on favourite for the title this year.
