Sunday 14th September – Richmond Castle 10k

Report from Mick Jeffrey

Seven years ago to the day I got my diagnosis. The following day I ran this race in 45.09

My racing career since has been rather hamstrung by er.. hamstring injuries! Having ditched physio therapy in favour of skipping I seem to be injury free. Therefore I decided to enter a proper race again. This one seemed appropriate.

On Saturday I looked out my Otley ac vest and was tickled to find it still had a race number attached: Richmond Castle 10k 2015. This apparently was my first race after successful chemotherapy. I finished 154th in a pw of 50.52

I had forgotten how hilly this race is. I was reduced to walking three times which meant I recorded an new massive pw: 154th again in 52.50. I won’t be running it again too soon

It makes the Great Langdale Xmas pudding 10k seem like a walk in the park. I have also entered that race which also had a special resonance for me. I’ve won my age category there several times and in 2009, aged 57 recorded my last sub 40 10k. I’m looking for sub 50 now!

Results from Richmond:
1 MS Alex Kiel New Marske Harriers 35.51
70 1st lady F50 Gail Colville Barnsley Harriers
154 M60 Mick Jeffrey Otley ac 52.50
376 Finished

  1. I agree with Caron R. about that we are pleased to see you back racing in a competitive style . I did not know about the chemotherapy and I am indeed really happy that it was successful , and still your Richmond Castle 10k 2018 was not bad at all , considering the challenging course your 52. 50 it is a strong performance and after all you left behind loads of runners . Well done to the competitor Mick J.
