Sunday 13th January – Brass Monkey Half

Report from Billy Rayner

Myself, Gavin Burton, Andy Webster and Rebecca Rayner travelled over to York for the Brass Monkey Half. In York we met up with John Davies and Rob Fearnley. After sheltering in the Knavesmire Stand we made our way to the start. Conditions were very windy which made running hard work.  The whole race was a struggle with no shelter from the wind. The harder I tried the slower I seemed to get. After 2 hours I finally reached the finish line.

The winner was Adrian Bailes of Birtley AC in 1:09:42. 1st lady was Becky Briggs of City of Hull AC in 1:14:57.

For Otley Scott Harrington was 7th overall (1st V40) in 1:11:55, Andy Webster 716th in 1:44:14, Gavin Burton 1099th in 1:57:04, Andrew Rayner 1256th in 2:04:04, Rob Fearnley 1312th in 2:08:12, John Davis 1388th in 2:12:06 and Rebecca Rayner 1544th in 2:36:53

  1. I agree with Tamara W. that it was brave running by all in such weather conditions . I did this half a couple of times in my fifty’s , my best time was 1.44 . Huge performance by Scott H. his 1.11 is fabulous running , also Rebecca R. did a great effort , her 2.36 is a good result , especially that it has been done with tough conditions . Well done everyone .
