Sunday 13th January – Stanbury Splash

Additional Comments from Colin Best

This was the first fell runner counter so where better to start. I have done this race several times and rarely are the conditions pleasant. This year it was severe gales and rain in the face the whole way up. However the recent dryer spell meant that the streams were quite low and the bank up from the beck not as muddy as usual. The biggest help was that the wind blew me up the final climb to the finish. My feet hardly touched the ground.

It was too unpleasant to hang around at the end so didn’t manage to catch up with other Otley runners. Antonio had from a couple of dogs assisting. Hope no complaints.

  1. I agree with Colin B. that the weather conditions were really bad and I have to thank the two lovely little dogs and they were two horsepower because they really have helped me on the big hill after the river and pulling me up so fast I could not keep up with them , I had them for few miles until the river crossing , I am gratefully to them for the big effort they have done to pull up the hill almost 14 stones . Rene S. did the almost 7 miles in a super time of 68.07 , and fell runner and senior member Colin B. is slowly coming back to shape after he stopped running for few months , finishing with with a superb time of 80.33. Well done all .
