Sunday 3rd March – Brownlee Centre Festival of Running 10km

Report from Colin Best:

This was the inaugural year of this running festival featuring several races from 1 mile up to 20 miles throughout the day . All of them using the the 1 mile circuit of the cycling track at the Brownlee Centre Boddinton. Not my usual running terrain but I thought as it was local I would give it a go. I am sure for all of you out there who want to get a PB you won’t get a better opportunity. Alas I am not in that category.

I was going to to the Pendle Round the previous day but decided I wasn’t up to a 10 mile fell race before six and a bit laps on tarmac. Still the weather held out despite a little cooler than recently.
With just 67 runners it was an uncustomly uncrowned start. The track is exactly 1 mile with a slight incline at the start of each lap. It was difficult until my last lap to know how I was doing as the 5 km started more or less at the same time and lapping and getting lapped confused matters.
Still pleased with my efforts.

  1. What a shame that you did not come to do the half tour of Pendle , I was the only one there and after all the terrain was quite hard , not as muddy as usual although it is a hard course . Also you were the only one at the Brownlee bike circuit and to do 52.45 for a 10k is a good time to do nowadays , well done to Colin B.
