Thirsk 10 17th March 2019

Report from Howard Jeffrey aka the Bard

I have upped the training to maximum in preparation for the duathlon at the end of April. Friday was a speed session which if you can call slow motion running on the spot into the teeth of a gale force wind ‘speed’. Going the other was however, with the leg speed at superspeed to prevent being blown over! Saturday was another parkrun in the Leeds race series so another hard day. Thirsk was a race to train through and I thought weather permitting I might manage 1.15. As always a congested start so it took a while to get going. Managed just about 7.30 pace once I got going. The wind was strong in places and apart from two bridges to cross and one small hill to negotiate the route is quite flat and open.

The race was won by Rob Scott of Richmond and Zetland in 53.38. First lady was Georgia Cambell of Jarrow and Hebburn in 59.37 in 39th place. Otley placings were Rogan Ashton, 188th in 1.09.07, Howard Jeffrey 352nd in 1.16.36, Andrew Raynor 752nd in 1.33.04. There were 1042 finishers

  1. 7.30 pace for 10 miles is not bad at all , especially considering the windy day , I think you are ready for the duathlon championship because your shape is almost at its best , well done to Howard J. – Also Rogan A. did have a great 10 miler finishing in 1.09 and as well our President Billy R. did well with a solid time of 1.33 .
