Sunday 28th April 2019 – London Marathon

Report from Mary Hampshire

When my name was pulled out of the hat for one of the club’s two ballot places in the London Marathon, I felt as though I’d won the lottery!

It was such a great feeling to run such a milestone marathon for a second time, given that I grew up in Romford, in the London Borough of Havering, and to catch up with some childhood friends during my stay.

I was thrilled to achieve a personal best of 4.05 compared to 4.13 in the Yorkshire Marathon in October 2018 and 4.34 in London previously in 2013.

I’m also delighted to have raised £841 for the Brain Tumour Research and Support Yorkshire charity in the process.

The atmosphere was exhilarating – I felt as though I was being carried by a wall of noise and encouragement from start to finish, which was particularly helpful from mile 17 onwards!

Thank you for my club place and congratulations to the other Otley AC runners who took part too! I’m determined to have another go at the marathon distance, as I’d love to reach my goal of sub 4 hours.
