Saturday 6th July – Warslow Fell Race

Report from Matt Podd:

As I was staying with my Mother in law in Buxton I had a look on the FRA calender for a local race, and found this AS Fell race in a pretty little village about 12 miles south of Buxton in Limestone country. It was part of the village Beer, food and vintage transport festival and all for the bargain price of a fiver.
About 150 of us set off downhill into the Manifold Valley, to be quickly slowed by a stile. Once past this bottleneck we began a series of roller coaster stiff climbs and steep descents, with not much level running. After 6 miles and 2000ft of ascent through lovely country side we finished back in the village. Unfortunately no results as yet, but I finished in about 1hr 20mins in the middle of the field, having overtaken a few folk on the way. After that it would have been rude not to sample some of the 40 beers on offer (shame I had to drive!) and a burger and cakes. Good to meet new folk and run in an area I’m not familiar with.

  1. Strangely enough the day after I was in Glassop , a town not far from Buxton doing Up the Nab , a new district for me and it is indeed a lovely place to run . Former boss Matt P. did 6 miles with 2000ft of climbing in around 1.20 , it is a solid time to do , considering that is a tough AS race . Well done Matt.
