Sunday 22nd December – 31st Ken Dixon Christmas Handicap

Sunday 22nd December – 31st Ken Dixon Christmas Handicap

As ever the final handicap of the year is the hilly 5 mile Ken Dixon, a loop of Timble village followed by a lap of Swinsty.  Given the time of year, conditions were pretty much perfect for the showdown between Lee and Paul for the Eric Smith Handicap Trophy title.  With a big lead in the table Lee basically just needed to keep Paul, setting off 90 second ahead, in sight.  Paul did his best and kept ahead but Lee did enough to take the title for 2019.  Paul finishes clear in second and last year’s winner Bob Payne taking third, see the full table here.

Running in her second handicap Catherine was a clear winner ahead of the veteran of many more, Nick.  Scott recorded the quickest time of the day, a swift 27:59 and there must be a special mention for Matt, sporting a pair of colourful 80’s disco tights.

Why not have a go at winning the title next year, the first race of the 2020 Eric Smith Handicap is the John Cowan Harewood Handicap on Saturday 18th January, @ 11am.

  1. Got to make special mention of the handicapper finishing plumb last! If ever there was a ‘perk of the job’ you would think it would be in setting your own handicap! What a good, honest decent chap you are Andrew.

  2. Congratulations indeed to Lee G. for winning the Championship , Lee did a great performance at the Ken Dixon finishing in a solid 39.19 . When I won the Championship in 2001, I did the last race of the Eric S. Trophy in 41 minutes at 52 years old , I got slower of around 20 minutes in 18 years . Also Congratulations to Catherine D. for the brilliant victory at the most important race on the calendar , The Ken Dixon , Catherine crossed the finish line in a splendid 45.14 . Caron R. was flying on the course , we started together and soon disappeared towards the Timble village , Caron finished in a strong 45.40 . It was good to see back running with us Nick H. after the serious injury , welcome back Nick . Well done all .

It is good to see Nick H. after the serious injury running with us once again in great form , welcome back Nick . Caron R. started with me , but soon after she was flying away towards the Timble village, Caron crossed the finish line in a strong 45.40 . Well done all .

  4. Well done to Catherine and Lee. Scott on his fast time. Matt and his unique tights, and Antonio’s humility towards others as always.
I told the handicapper weeks ago, possibly on the October Thuscross handicap that I was going to run the KD cause I like the big hill up at the start. Sadly, I forgot. My mind was on something else I guess.
Maybe I’ll try for the next one which I like.
