Sunday 29th December: Ribble Valley 10k inc NOEAA Champs

Report from Tony Walker

Scott Harrington take a bow! More on Scott shortly.
I did this race a couple of times when I was living nearby many moons ago. Its always been a quality race but they’ve ramped it up even more lately. They even have an elite start! Its surprisingly quick despite a few undulations probably because you are constantly racing whatever your pace and its traffic free. Not that it helped me today! Saw young Scott Harrington and even younger Jenson Brogden warming up so thought maybe we could win the team prize!!!
Chip timing meant no worrying about the start which was good because it took 19 seconds to get over the line and I was near the front. It also helped me slow down early on although I never got any faster! After a couple of kms I was already off target and feeling rubbish so a minor miracle that I actually got round in 42 mins 28 secs. To show the depth I was actually 23rd V55.
Jenson did great at 40mins 21secs – not sure if that was a pb? Great running from a junior.
Saving the best for last Mr Scott Harrington ran under 32 mins. YES under 32 mins. He did a pb of of 31mins 56secs to be 2nd V40.
That rates him as the 17th fastest V40 IN THE WHOLE OF THE UK. Giving us all a lesson in pace judgement he did the 1st 5k in 16mins 6 secs and the 2nd in 15.50. Fantastic discipline and he is a great ambassador for Otley AC.
To show the depth again Scott was 51st overall bearing in mind the winner was Mark Scott of Cambridge who ran 28mins 32secs. Wowzer. Equally impressive the first lady was Jess Judd in 32.17. Classy running.

  1. I agree with Tony W. that Scott H. did a fantastic 10k with a PB with an awesome time of 31.56 , Congratulations to Scott for the stunning performance . Also junior Jenson B. did really well crossing the finish line in a splendid 40.21 . Tony W. did 42.28 that it is still a solid time to do for a 10k in a day that you do not feel so great on the course .
