Sunday 12th January – Temple Newsam Ten

Report from Nicola Swann:

This was the third year in a row that I have run this race. It is a lovely start to the new year.  A challenging route at points with some climbs up through the Temple Newsam estate and plenty of mud to go with it. I was surprised that I was the only Otley AC runner but it does sell out fast.

It is a well organised event starting and finishing on the fields by the gates. However,it quickly heads down through the golf course into the woods and crosses to the other side of the motorway via a tunnel before doing a lap of the lake and heading back into the Temple Newsam estate for 3 separate hill climbs in the last 4 miles of the route.

At points you feel like you are in the middle of the countryside rather than the middle of Leeds and even the glimpses of the M1 at points don’t detract from this run.

With friendly marshall’s and a great medal and t-shirt at the finish and a lot of mud and hills, what’s not to like about the Temple Newsam Ten!  I would definitely recommend this race.

1st Male – Daniel Grant – Valley Striders 1:00:56

1st Female – Alice Leake – Leeds City AC 1:05:56

Me – 495th – 1:41:44   (3 seconds slower than last year. I’m blaming the mud on not being faster!)

836 runners in total.

  1. The Temple Newsam Ten course reminds me of the several cross country that our club has done in the past in this beautiful estate , also few weeks ago the PECO Cross Country has been run in the same routes of Temple . 1.41 is a good time to do in the Temple difficult terrain and you still left behind hundreds of runners , it is not bad at all for a day in the park . Well done indeed to Nicola S. for the solid performance .
