Saturday 7th March – Eccup New Inn Handicap

Race 3 of the 2020 Eric Smith Handcap Trophy took place at the New Inn, Eccup, a 4 mile mixture of road,  muddy farm fields and forest tracks.  Tom Hannah and Bob Payne set off first and Tom held on for the win by about 30 seconds or so, his 2nd win of the year already!.  Paul Clifford was second, Matt Chadwick chased down most of the field to finish 3rd.  Ian recorded the fastest time of the day in 9th.  Tony came back battered and bruised from a fall in the mud, hopefully not too much damage.

Louise Penny retains her lead at the top of the table on 53 points, 8 ahead of Tom Hannah, with James Dobson a further 4 points back.  See the full table here.

April sees the start of the training night handicaps on Tues. 28th with the Fewston Handicap.

Another note for your diary the May race is the popular Danefield handicap, followed by, (to be confirmed), a BBQ at the cricket club on Thurs. 14th May.

See a couple of photos of the muddy fields below, more action photos from Jack to follow:

  1. Congratulations to former President Tom H. for the brilliant victory in the Eccup Race , Tom crossed the finish line in a solid 42 .05 . Ursula M. is in good form at the moment , Ursula finished the 4 miles in a splendid 35.06 . Also new member Megan M. did well finishing in a fast time of 33.48 . Longstanding runner and veteran member David F. did really well finishing in a strong 35.19 . Amazing Ian Fisher that went to the finish line in a fantastic 23.09 , it a shame that I missed the New Inn for the clashing with the Half Tour of Pendle because I missed Ian in action with his spectacular stride . Well done all .
