Sunday 25th October – Dave MacDonald Haltemprice 10k

Report from Joanna Hobson

On Sunday I was very fortunate to take part in the 34th running of this event named in honour of its founder Dave MacDonald of Haltemprice RRC. Due to Covid19 this was my first (and probably last) race of the year so it felt really special to be racing again.

The organisation of this race was absolutely superb. Race entries all had to be complete one week prior to the event and you had to give a predicted time for your finish. LKR events then allocated your race number and staggered start time to account for this. All runners had to initially congregate on a playing field maintaining 2 meter social distancing and were then called forward in groups of 30 to a “holding pen” to be walked SD for 4 minutes to the start line. The “start line” was a grid system with 3 lanes and 10 places separated by cones placed at 2 meter distance. You were then called forward 3 at a time for a chip timed start. All felt very safe but also very exciting.

The undulating course was all on closed roads through the small East Yorkshire villages of Kirk Ella, West Ella and Swanland. At the finish line we were greeted with cheering Marshals where we could hand sanitise before picking up our bottled water and mug.

The organisation and Marshals throughout the whole event was superb so a huge thank you to all of the volunteers.

First male  was Kris Lecher,  City of Hull AC in 31:50 and first female was Tegan Roberts also of City of Hull AC in 40:01. I was placed overall 216, 41st female and second place FV60 in a time of 51:11. This was my first 10k race since 2016 and I beat my previous PB by 3 minutes so really pleased with this result.
