As I have spent just about every Sunday since the beginning of the pandemic over in Hessle helping to care for my Mother in Law, I thought I’d look at the East Yorkshire race calendar to see if anything took my fancy. I’d done The Haltemprice 10k last October and this was an extremely well organised event by LKR Events which I really enjoyed, so seeing The Gilberdyke 10 mile by the same race organisers I thought I’d give it a go.

Perhaps I should have looked at the event more closely before entering but I didn’t! Nothing wrong with the organisation, again excellent. A T shirt and flapjack at the end, and only 15 minutes drive from where I was staying, so what’s not to like? The answer is THE ROUTE!

Basically, go to the start line, run; turn left and run again; turn left and run again; turn left run again and 10 miles later you’re at the finish! And that was it. No gentle undulating hills, no views, no ups, no downs, just flat East Yorkshire roads. It wasn’t for me and I love the road so it was a good job no off road running friends had joined me! I don’t think I would be allowed back in the club.

Now for the good news, I got a PB and Mark Hall won 1st place MV60 (although I didn’t actually see him)

1st Male – Lee Milburn, Rotherham Harriers in 52:18 and a new course record

1st Female – Becky Briggs, City of Hull AC (and GB) in 57:39

Mark Hall – Otley AC, 63:51 and 1st MV 60

Joanna Hobson – Otley AC, 86:08 and new PB

  1. I agree with Tamara about the brilliant results from both . A great PB by Joanna H. for this flat 10 miler , Joanna crossed the finish line in a splendid 86.08 . Mark H. had another fantastic performance finishing in a fast 63.51 .
