Saturday 6th January – Yorkshire Cross Country

Saturday 6th January – Yorkshire Cross Country

On a cool and mostly sunny day at the Lightwater Valley Theme Park it was fantastic to see Otley AC represented in 6 of the 10 races at the best County championships in the country? Well done to all the juniors, racing in these high quality races. The  senior women stole the day with Vicky Stainburn 24th 33:37, Laura McCabe 42nd 36:00 and Sara Elliott 57th 37:26 all having great runs on the twisting course, where the going was best described in horse racing…

Sunday 31st December – Auld Lang Syne

Sunday 31st December – Auld Lang Syne

Report from Tom Lynch: The 2017 Auld Lang Syne (9.6km/300m) was the last ever Woodentops race hosted by Dave and Eileen Woodhead as they retire from what must be a hectic race organisation schedule to enjoy a more relaxed participation in the fell running community. This ensured a good turnout of creative fancy dress costumes in the race, the most hardcore involving a half naked guy covered in gold paint half encased in a cardboard box representing a statue/trophy commemorating…

Wednesday 27th December – Guisborough Woods Fell Race

Wednesday 27th December – Guisborough Woods Fell Race

Report from Laura McCabe: I was staying with my parents in Guisborough over Christmas and decided to enter the Guisborough Woods race. The race was 5.5 miles long (3 laps) with 1200ft of climbing. The course consisted of a steep hill climb up through an old quarry, a fast underfoot flat section for 1/2 mile along a forest track on the top of the hill before a very muddy steep decent through the trees back to the start. I finished…

Tuesday 26th December – Chevin Chase

Tuesday 26th December – Chevin Chase

Report from Rob Fearnley The Chevin Chase. The one everyone wants to be in when entries open in October. The one no one wants to be in as they pop a final chocolate orange segment in their gob at 11.30pm on Christmas Day to top off the Turkey dinner, yule log and copious amounts of booze they’ve already forced down their neck. A solid turnout of 20 or so Black & Whites were present on the start line this year…

Sunday 17th December – The Stoop Fell Race

Sunday 17th December – The Stoop Fell Race

Report from Victoria Stainburn: There were a few Otley vests out for the second to last Woodentops race on Sunday. It was very cold, icy and raining. The car park was like a skating rink. We were told at the start that due to weather and conditions the route would be slightly different and shorter. Straight up to the stoop and back again. The ground was horrendously boggy and at times we were thigh deep in mud. Having said this,…

Leg 1 Report from Steve Robinson: Tamara and Steve R set the Relay off from Keighley, at Cliffe Castle Park, through Laycock, taking in parts of the Millennium Way, over to Sutton in Craven and finally the change over at Kildwick. Around 9 miles of very icy and treacherous ground conditions. Unfortunately, around 3 miles into the race we came across a Barlick Fell Runner, on the deck, who had slipped on ice and had a suspected broken ankle. Not…
