Tuesday 11th September – 3000m Handicap ROY Track race 1 & Race 9 Eric Smith Trophy

Tuesday 11th September – 3000m Handicap ROY Track race 1 & Race 9 Eric Smith Trophy

There was a dramatic finish to the 3ooom.  Bob with a clear lead with less than 100m to go crashed to the track after tripping on the metal track border.  Despite this he quickly got back to his feet to hold off the strong finish from Jenson.  Mark just took the honour of the fastest time of the night with 10.22, just a second quicker than Graham. The stirling efforts of Bob saw him extend his lead at the top…

Sunday 9th September – Bradley Fell Race

Sunday 9th September – Bradley Fell Race

Report from Colin Best 3.5 miles 900′ of climb I last did this BOFRA fell race a couple of years ago. This year I was accompanied by Don Buffham and the ever present Antonio. Antonio needs to check the weather forecast as this was a rare shorts outing on a cool wet and windy afternoon, it was a gloves day for me. This short fell race is associated with a local show and is basically a steady climb across fields…

Sunday 9th September – Great North Run

Sunday 9th September – Great North Run

Report from Rob Fearnley A few observations, reflections and a bit of nonsense on yesterdays GNR for the website. There is nothing you can do in training that can get anywhere close to preparing you for the Great North Run. Training for the run itself is arguably the easy bit but the event itself is overwhelming to the extent that miles 2-12 disappear in a riot of colour, cheering, and jelly babies. The whole thing is enormous and I loved…

Sunday 9th September – Roundhay 10k

Sunday 9th September – Roundhay 10k

Report from Peter Gosling Perfect weather, sunny but not hot, for this Sunday morning race with a Parkrun vibe (well, it is a run round a park). In total it was two laps of the lake with some hilly bits tacked on at the start and finish on for a laugh. First man home was Terry Midgley of Valley Striders AC in 39’22; first woman home was Tammy Short from York Triathlon Club in 46’02. I managed 45’34 and… this…

Sunday 9th September – Yorkshireman Half Marathon

Sunday 9th September – Yorkshireman Half Marathon

Richard Hamer reports from Bronte Country: Four OAC people turned out for the Yorkshireman Half Marathon held on a very wobbly figure of eight course starting from Haworth and circulating Oxenhope and Ovenden moors; and one of us was a winner! With a road half marathon coming up in about a month in Palma I was going to do the Vale of York but Phil Robinson fancied this so the 14.8 miles Yorkshireman it was. Organised by Keighley & Craven…

Saturday 8th September – Hodder Valley Show Fell Race

Saturday 8th September – Hodder Valley Show Fell Race

Report from Matt Looking on the FRA Calender I saw this race – a BM 6.2 mile with 320m of climbing up Easington Fell, in the Forest of Bowland starting from the show ground in Slaidburn and was tempted. At the Ilkley Incline I spoke to Graham Breeze ( Ex FRA boss and an authority on all things) who told me about the Hodder show rotating through three different show grounds – so three different versions of the race. In…

Saturday 8th September – Yorkshire Downhill Time Trial

Saturday 8th September – Yorkshire Downhill Time Trial

Report from Tom Lynch: I generally only ever run up hills so that at some point I get to run down them again, so I’d had my eye on the Yorkshire Downhill Time Trail from the start of the year when it was announced. The race is a (net) downhill fell race that runs through Havok mountain bike park near Todmorden, which is a set of trails that runs through some woodland, with jumps, banked turns, technical sections and wooden…

Wednesday 5th September – Ilkley Incline

Wednesday 5th September – Ilkley Incline

Report from Tom Pom Last Wednesday saw the most recent leg of my fat dad, post-baby comeback tour at Ilkley Incline. There are few better ways to make yourself feel unfit than running straight up a hill for a mile, but with fell league points up for grabs there was a decent turn out of black and whites, albeit an unusually man-heavy contingent. Now, this is the bit of the write-up where you normally describe the lovely course and beautiful…

Sunday 2nd September – Wetherby 10k

Sunday 2nd September – Wetherby 10k

Report from El Pres Myself, Sara Elliott and Ann Yeadon drove over to Wetherby Racecourse to take part in the Wetherby 10k. As we set from Otley we saw the temperature gauge gradually rise from 21 degrees to 28 degrees on reaching Wetherby! At the racecourse we met up with Reebs Keinhorst, Amie Jordan, Hannah Place and Tash Whittaker. Whilst waiting on the start line with Reebs & Amie I saw Lee Gumbrell rushing to the back of queue of…

Saturday 1st – Tuesday 4th September: 3 races in Lanzarote

Saturday 1st – Tuesday 4th September: 3 races in Lanzarote

Report from Phil Robinson – It feels odd to be baking in the sun at Club Lasanta without my usual running pals from Otley A.C., so in lieu of swapping stories over lunch in the pool bar here’s an account of the week’s competitive events so far. Saturday 1st: 5 or 10k race This is a two-lapper for 10k with the option to drop out after 5k. Since no-one is obliged to declare in advance whether they’re doing 5 or…
