Sunday 22nd April – London Marathon

Sunday 22nd April – London Marathon

Report from Billy On what was to be the hottest London Marathon on record I was a bit apprehensive at the start of my 20th marathon after having already ditched my old t-shirt to wear at the start to keep me warm as I was far too warm anyway! I hung around the entrance to my pen hoping to spot Tash Whittaker to offer a few words of encouragement but failed to spot her. I did however bump into former…

Burnsall Half Marathon

Burnsall Half Marathon

Report from Lizzie Irvine: Temperatures soared and the sun was high over the stunning Dales landscape for the Due North Burnsall half-marathon this weekend. The route followed trails over high fields and moors, through beautiful hidden gullies and along the Wharf between Burnsall, Appletreewick and beyond. Rob Fearnley completed the sweltering challenge in 2:46:27 and Lizzie Irvine staggered back at 2:02:33 as 4th lady. The leading man, Ted Mason, somehow sprinted around to finish in 1:27:47 and the 1st lady…

Sunday 15th April 2018 – Vale of York 10

Sunday 15th April 2018 – Vale of York 10

Report from Howard Another weekend another 10 miler. I nursed my knee during the week because it was swollen and clicking from a bike ride with the saddle too low so I did not get round to running again for a speed session, albeit short, on Friday. Saturday with saddle adjusted properly I rode up to Wetherby to do the parkrun. I wanted to push it a bit harder (23.05) so that today’s 10 was run slightly fatigued to get…

Gisborough Moors Fell Race – 12.5 miles 2600ft ascent

Gisborough Moors Fell Race – 12.5 miles 2600ft ascent

Report from Graham Lake: As I had some free time while the kids were at Grandma’s I thought I’d give this race a go. 12 miles is further than I normally race, so I took it easy for the first section up through the woods and over the open moor, basking in the rare sun and having a good look round at the gorgeous North Yorkshire Moors, watching the line of runners snaking away in front and behind was quite a…

Sunday 8th April: Paris marathon

Sunday 8th April: Paris marathon

Report from John Davis Last year, I made an agreement with my partner, Debbie. I would enter the London Marathon, which Debs thinks I should do ‘because it’s ours, & it’s one of the biggest in the world’ &, when I got my rejection, I’d get to enter the one I really wanted to do, Paris. That’s how it turned out and, despite a knee injury messing up my training & giving my a terrible last 10k, I enjoyed it…

Sunday 8th April 2018 – Baildon Boundary Way

Sunday 8th April 2018 – Baildon Boundary Way

Report from S Boddy I received a late entry to this event after my mate dropped out so I wasn’t particularly well prepared. (always good to get an excuse in early I feel). It’s a quick start with the first mile or so heading down from Baildon through Esholt before the steep, sharp hill in the Woods. I started nearer the front than I intended so spent the first stages of the race being passed by others. This included Vicky…

Sunday 8th April: Thirsk 10

Sunday 8th April: Thirsk 10

Report from Howard I was able to do the Thirsk 10 for the first time in a long time because it had been postponed due to the snow earlier in the year. I lined up with 676 others in what were pretty well perfect conditions. Temperature about 10 degrees, no wind to speak of and bright without blazing sun. The route itself is on decent tarmac with much of the route on closed roads and just enough slightly rolling undulation…
