Saturday 4th November – Shepherds Skyline

Saturday 4th November – Shepherds Skyline

Richard Hamer writes: As 2017 draws to a close, the club’s inaugural fell race championship is hotting up with less than one point separating Antonio and Don Buffham. The latest round saw both contenders along with fourth placed Tom Lynch turn out for the Shepherds Skyline race, a firm favourite on the fell calendar. Held at Lumbutts, near Todmorden, this category BS race involves two climbs adding up to 350m of ascent over 10km. While the weather was dry, the…

Sunday 29th October – West Yorkshire Cross Country League, Nunroyd Park, Guiseley

Sunday 29th October – West Yorkshire Cross Country League, Nunroyd Park, Guiseley

Round two of the West Yorkshire Cross Country League saw the usual suspects turn out for OAC at Nunroyd Park, Guiseley. A crisp sunny day greeted the runners, as did claggy ground and a slightly amended course than in previous years thanks to the section near rear of the park being removed. In the ladies’ race, Victoria Stainburn was 24th in 23:36 and Laura McCabe was 40th in 24:32. The winner was Georgia Malir (Leeds City) in 20:25. In the men’s…

Sunday 15th Oct – Palma Marathon Mallorca

Sunday 15th Oct – Palma Marathon Mallorca

Report from Richard Hamer: Another year and another trip to Mallorca with six other OACers plus 10 from Wetherby Runners for the Palma 10 (and half-marathon for John Armitstead and the Wetherby group). The 10 starts at 9:40am next to the cathedral and is an out and back along the bay with a slight climb at the turn point. It’s not the fastest course because there’s about 2,500 others taking part so it’s a bit chaotic, especially during the first…

Saturday 16th September – Beinn Resipol Hill Race

Saturday 16th September – Beinn Resipol Hill Race

In Scotland fell races are called hill races; and in a moment of madness two years ago I entered the Beinn Resipol Hill Race knowing that I’d be on holiday nearby on the day of the race (I was actually about 100-miles away). However, the day before I was in Plockton and I’d never been there before and I was such a beautiful place – it’s not the Jewel in the Highlands for nothing – that I decided it was…

Sunday 3rd September – Wetherby 10k

Sunday 3rd September – Wetherby 10k

The 12th edition of the Wetherby 10k saw a good turnout from OAC (partly in celebration of Tom Hannah’s XX birthday). Just over 900 runners started with Tony Walker the first home for Otley in 41:43 (41:47 gun), which saw him claim the M55 prize. Sara Elliott was next, bouncing over the finish line in 45:40 (45:58) which saw her third F45 – not sure if there’s a prize for that. Matt Podd finished in 47:03 (47:12), Philip Robinson 50:51…

Thursday 28th February – OAC Cake-Off & Quiz

Thursday 28th February – OAC Cake-Off & Quiz

A huge thanks to everyone who baked and who joined in with the evening; you did the club proud. Honourable judges Billy (Paul Hollywood) and Phil R (Mary Berry) had the enviable tasks of sampling all 13 entries before declaring the winner to be Gemma Harrington for her lemon cup cakes, and she won a bottle of top notch cava from the OAC Cellar for her efforts; there’s a video of her tearful acceptance speech on the OAC Runners Facebook page courtesy…
