Full results are awaited from the link above,  but known results at the end of Leg 4, Laura and Tamara finished with Otley in 38th from an entry of 87 teams.

Matt Broughton & Andy Hunt had the early start completing the first leg in 1:37, there’s a good picture of a determined looking Andy & Matt here.
They passed the baton on to Shane Ewen & Joe Webster  for the second leg from Cragg Vale to Todmorden via Stoodley Pike who had a great run taking 1:12 for their leg.
Next up on Leg 3 Caron & Sarah Smith had an equally good one for the relatively short but mostly up hill leg to the Blackshaw Head with a time of 56 mins.
Fresh from birthday celebrations for Laura and Bradford City promotion parties for Tamara they ran well to record a time of about 1:30 for the fourth leg finishing at Wainstalls.
Club secretary John Dade & Otley 10 supremo, Colin Best set off in the mass start on Leg 5 recording an excellent time of 1:15 for their leg finishing at Shelf.
Experienced veterans Fisher & Robertshaw had the pleasure of the long last leg back to the Rugby club from Shelf via Bailiff Bridge, Brighouse & Southowram, with the hon. handicapper struggling a little after recent injury problems, the Fisher had an easy run out in preparation for Tuesday’s Harrogate League race, but I was pleased enough finishing OK in  just under 1:20.

Well done team…  Oh & must reluctantly mention the fact that senior Robertshaw’s old club Sale Harriers won in a time of 6:15.

From the results, the race was won by Mike Jefferies in 58.09 and the first lady in sixteenth position overall was Emma Yates (Knavesmire) in 66.17.

For OAC, Scott Harrington finished fourth (60.25), Tom Midgley twelfth (64.33), Mark Berry 65th (76.08), Howard Jeffrey 69th (77.03), Andrew Ackroyd 81st (79.03), Tom Hannah 141st (85.26) and Jackie Ackroyd 156th (86.40).

“Had a good race in the BMC Grand Prix 1,500m A race, finishing second in 4.16.67 – a big pb by almost four seconds.

The winner was Charlene Thomas (Wakefield) in 4.14.38.

The race was won by Adam Peers (Liverpool Harriers) in 15.24 and the first lady in sixteenth position overall was OAC’s Racheal Bamford (16.50).

OAC second-claim member Zack Whitehead finished 44th (17.53) and Simon Anderson crossed the line in 75th (18.58).

It turned out to be a pleasant evening for a fell race and a real family affair.

A good turnout of OAC Juniors, kids of senior members and their schoolmates. Graham’s daughter Isla was there for her first fell race, as were Sarah Fuller’s two, Erin and Skye. My son Seth was running his second fell race and was well beaten by young Skye Fuller!

The Senior race was won by Chris Smithard (Deeside Orienteers) in 38.40, not far off the course record. First lady was Jo Waites (Calder Valley) who finished 27th overall in 46.04. OAC’s Matt John came third (40.38) – not bad for a city marathon runner.

Having turned up to support number two son in the Junior race, I did consider just going back home for a friendly club run but Laura and Sarah would never have forgiven me and as far as I was aware, I was the only OAC lady running – first lady for the club was as good as it got for me!

Jimmy talked me through the course beforehand and warned me about the bottleneck at the start – which I duly got stuck behind, weighed down by the very tasty cupcake I had just eaten. ‘Twas a lovely race, after the climb that seemed to go on for rather a long time, but I was pleased with my effort and no walking.

The new slabs, I was told, make it easier along the top. Then the really boggy bit – I loved that. I gave myself a pat on the back as I got past a couple of ladies. Too soon, unfortunately, as I threw myself down the hill, literally. I’m not quite sure why my foot stopped but the rest of me was still going and I went splat on my face. A real nose-dive! A bit dizzily I got up, checked I could stay upright, and carried on. I don’t know if there will be a photo (yes there is, above right, but pre-nose-bleed?…Admin) but there was a dramatic amount of blood pouring out of my nose.

I’ll take a different route down next year!

For her commitment to training nights and a strong run at the Fewston Handicap where she finished second across the finish line in an excellent time of 29.08, this month’s Runner of the Month is Nicky Scott.

Lots of runners were involved in this popular race in the east part of Yorkshire – a beautiful setting in the market town of Beverley.

The run started outside the Beverley Cathedral – a narrow start – must get near to the front – the hooter blew, we were off. I nearly got killed in the rush behind me, as dozens barged past in the charge up the street, through the town and we headed up towards the race course, a slightly uphill section that went on and on – oh no – the legs are not working, keep going, the top of the hill is in sight, down we go again, could do with another pair of lungs, back up again, another gentle slope, that goes on and on, 3 mile marker, out in the country now, turn left, sign, “Beverley three miles”, plenty of support on Eastwood, big grassy area, running back down past the race course towards the town centre, great support but where’s the finish?

Through the town centre, crowds going wild with enthusiasm and they shout, “Nearly there!”.

My heart is coming through my chest, turn right, there it is, the finish banner, I am now sure I am going to die but we across the line in 52.00 dead, 51.56 chip time, 572nd place out of 1,241 finishers, eighth out of nineteen in the mv65-69 category, great to be back!

The race was won by Phillip Tedd (Sale) in 32.42 and the first lady in 38th position overall was Helen Cross (Pocklington) in 38.07.
