Brass Monkey Half Marathon – 14 January 2018

Brass Monkey Half Marathon – 14 January 2018

Report from Andy Webster There was going to be a bigger turnout of Otley Ac runners but in the end it was just myself and Gavin Burton who made it to the start line. It was a cool fresh day but luckily no ice. A severe lack of long runs meant my legs did not feel great from about 9 miles and gradually got slower for the last 4. Good day overall and some great home made cakes were purchased…

Endurancelife – Anglesey

Endurancelife – Anglesey

Report from Tom Paget: A couple of old university friends suggested meeting up for a weekend of catching up and running a race. We agreed on to one on Anglesey, one of the Endurance Life events that offers races on dramatic coastal paths across the UK (albeit at what I thought was a rather expensive entry fee). We chose the half marathon, which was actually 14.7 miles of hilly, rocky, boggy, windy but very beautiful hard running. I felt pretty…

Captain Cook Fell Race – January 1st 2018

Captain Cook Fell Race – January 1st 2018

Report from Graham Lake: I’ve done this race a couple of times before, and as my Dad now lives in Great Ayton I thought it was time for a return. Being my usual saintly self on New Year’s Eve (ahem) I was up bright and early to line up in the middle of Great Ayton next to the statue of the young James Cook (by the lesser known 3rd Dimbleby brother, Nicholas). Although a fell race, the first mile is…

Sunday 31st December – Auld Lang Syne

Sunday 31st December – Auld Lang Syne

Report from Tom Lynch: The 2017 Auld Lang Syne (9.6km/300m) was the last ever Woodentops race hosted by Dave and Eileen Woodhead as they retire from what must be a hectic race organisation schedule to enjoy a more relaxed participation in the fell running community. This ensured a good turnout of creative fancy dress costumes in the race, the most hardcore involving a half naked guy covered in gold paint half encased in a cardboard box representing a statue/trophy commemorating…

Wednesday 27th December – Guisborough Woods Fell Race

Wednesday 27th December – Guisborough Woods Fell Race

Report from Laura McCabe: I was staying with my parents in Guisborough over Christmas and decided to enter the Guisborough Woods race. The race was 5.5 miles long (3 laps) with 1200ft of climbing. The course consisted of a steep hill climb up through an old quarry, a fast underfoot flat section for 1/2 mile along a forest track on the top of the hill before a very muddy steep decent through the trees back to the start. I finished…

Tuesday 26th December – Chevin Chase

Tuesday 26th December – Chevin Chase

Report from Rob Fearnley The Chevin Chase. The one everyone wants to be in when entries open in October. The one no one wants to be in as they pop a final chocolate orange segment in their gob at 11.30pm on Christmas Day to top off the Turkey dinner, yule log and copious amounts of booze they’ve already forced down their neck. A solid turnout of 20 or so Black & Whites were present on the start line this year…
