Upcoming races
There are junior fell races on Sunday 22nd February.at Ilkley starting from Millenium Gardens (Wells Road). Races for children of 6 and over with separate races for the different age categories starting from 10:30a.m. Race distances are 0.5 miles for U8s and 1 mile for U10/U121/U14. Turn up on the day and pay £1. These races really are good fun and are a great introduction to racing. Even better, theer is an adult race at 11:30a.m. so parents can have a go as well. Happy New Year to everyone.

Training started again on Monday 5th January and will continue in the Sports Hall and Gym for the rest of this session with the last session on 30th March. Please note that there will be no training on Monday 16th February which is half term.

Saturday morning runs are continuing from this Saturday 10th January as before, at 9am in Chevin Forest Park.

Track and Field. There is a first track meet of the season on Sunday 29th March at Scunthorpe with competitions in running, long jump and throws. Competitors must be at least 9 years old on the day of the race. Please let me know if you wish to compete. If there is enough interest I will try to arrange a minibus to take us to and from the meeting. See: scunthorpeathletics.com

Training Sessions:

6-15 year old training is held on:

Mondays, 6:15p.m. – 7:30p.m.

Venue: Sports Hall of Prince Henry’s Grammar School, Otley

Parents and children runs: Saturday, 9a.m.

Venue: Chevin Danefield, Left hand car park (leaving Otley), East Chevin Road

Distance: 1.5-2 miles lasting about 30 minutes

Joining Otley AC Juniors:

All abilities are welcome to attend the sessions. We have to charge £1 per Monday session to cover charges for venues and equipment. This is in addition to yearly membership charges £5 ( 6-10 years) and £10 (11-16 years) which also include a license to compete in UK athletics events. Non-members are welcome to try a couple of sessions before committing to yearly membership.

What to Wear:

Loose fitting sports clothing such as t-shirts and shorts or tracksuit bottoms. A good pair of trainers. Light waterproof jacket for outdoor sessions if it is raining. Don’t forget to bring some water to drink as well.

What Will We Do?:

Training will be in running (sprints, fell running, cross country), jumps (long jump, triple jump) and throws (javelin, shot put, hammer, discus).
