Tuesday 22nd May – YVAA Grand Prix Race organised by Kirkstall Harriers starting at 7.30pm.

Wednesday 23rd May – Badger Stone Relays. OAC members wanting to take part contact Hugh in advance.

Monday 28th May – A social pack training run around the next HDSRL course meeting by Homebase, Kirk Lane, Yeadon at 7.30pm and covering approximately 6 miles around Spring Woods, Esholt.

Thursday 31st May – HDSRL third evening race at Yeadon organised by Dragons Running Club starting at 7.45pm and meeting up beforehand at Cross Green by 7.00pm to share lifts.

Thursday 7th June – Committee Meeting after training.

Thursday 14th June – Club Handicap around Stainburn (6.2 miles).

Thursday 21st June – HDSRL fifth evening race at Harrogate organised by Nidd Valley assisted by Vocalink starting at 7.45pm and meeting up beforehand at Cross Green by 6.50pm to share lifts.

Wednesday 4th July – Danefield Relay. OAC have booked the Cheerful Chilli for a social meal afterwards. Cost £18.50 apprx and members wanting to go should advise Sarah ASAP because limited number of 30 places and arrange to pay Sarah a deposit of £5 per person to confirm.

Friday 13th July – Washburn Valley Relay

Thursday 19th July – Club Handicap around Danefield (2.9 miles) with barbecue (t.b.c.) afterwards at the Cricket Club.

Thursday 26th July – Club Runner of the Year Golden Mile at Greehead Track, Keighley meeting by 7.30pm (or by 6.50pm at Cross Green to share lifts).

Friday 27th July – Sunday 12th August – London 2012 Olympics.

Thursday 16th August – Club Runner of the Year and Club Handicap over 3,000m at Greenhead Track, Keighley meeting by 7.30pm (or by 6.50pm at Cross Green to share lifts).

The final race of the Series was won by Quentin Lewis (Baildon) in 15.46 and the first lady in 41st position overall was Jo Buckley (Bingley) in 18.07.

For OAC, Lloyd Best finished 63rd (18.52), Karen Best 96th (19.51), Mick Jeffrey 120th (20.46), Reid Haddow 188th (23.27) and Don Buffham 227th (25.43).

Over the three race Series, Karen finished third overall in the FV40 category, Mick second in the MV60 category and Reid fourth in the MV65 category.

The race was won by Marc Scott (Richmond & Zetland) in 28:23, and the first lady was Lisa Mawer (Wetherby) in 44th position in 34:22.

“Won the 800m on Saturday Yorkshire County AA Championships in 2.12.52…just sat in until the last 100m and kicked…”

And that’s another fantastic Club Record for Racheal….

Then on Sunday, Racheal also reports,

“I have won the 1,500m as well this afternoon, another slow race with a fast finish, with a time of 4.34.96″.

The race was won by Owen Beilby (Wharfedale Harriers) in 73.54 and the first lady in 38th position overall was Emily Birchall (Leeds City) in 82.57 (all gun positions / chip times).

For OAC, Liam Dunne finished eleventh (79.37), Julian Mawson (pictured right) 21st (81.24), Tom Midgley 24th (81.37), Ed Hardy 52nd (84.14 – a pb), Tom Paget 117th (89.04 – a pb) and Karen Potter 166th (and second FV40) in 91.13.

Continuing, Howard Jeffrey 193rd (92.31), Richard Smith 240th (94.07 – a pb), John Davis 648th (101.26), Tom Hannah 1,024th (106.12), Billy Rayner 1,085th (105.20) and Andrew Webster 1,134th (103.48).

Also Jane Butler 1,313rd (108.35 – a pb), Reid Haddow (pictured lower right) 1,501st (110.34), Sara Richard 1,926th (115.46 – a pb) and Ged Peacock 2,373rd (118.17).

The race was won by Jack Simpson (Unattached) in 57.35 and the first lady was Emma Yates (Knavesmire) in 21st position overall (67.32).

For OAC, Lloyd Best finished 27th (69.46), Karen Best 31st (and third lady) in 70.25, Matt Broughton 47th (72.50), Mick Jeffrey 52nd (73.14) and Mark Berry 71st (76.52).

A bunch of us did Fairfield Horseshoe Fell Race (9 miles / 2,999′) on a very fine Saturday…. Andrew was thirteenth – good effort.

Rhys Findlay-Robinson (Dark Peak) won in 79.18 and Karen Robertson (Northumberland Fell Runners) first lady in 76th in 103.36.

For OAC, Andrew Robertshaw finished thirteenth (out of 291) in 87.46, John Armitstead 77th (103.51), Hugh Pearson 96th (107.10), Sharron Smith 142nd (116.11), Simon Toyne 146th (116.43) and Matt Podd 196th (122.59)

The unavoidable big puddle of cow poo near the start really cheered every one up – and provided an abiding odour for the rest of the race.

I competed in the Bradford Park Run and, after running the 8.5 miles to the start as a warm up, I completed the 5k finishing ninth in a pleasing 19:58. I then ran home again.

Pleased with that as it came at the end of a 25 hour training week which included 90 miles of running.

I see from my notes that on 28 May last year I did the same thing but completed the 5k in 20:59 so that’s a good improvement which bodes well for the 100 mile race which is less than 6 weeks away now.

Reid Haddow also did the Bradford Park Run finishing 73rd (25.03) the day before the Leeds Half Marathon.

The race was won by Andrew Bedford (Unattached) in 18.10 and the first lady in sixteenth position overall was Claire Smith (Keighley & Craven) in 21.04.

He is raising money for Cancer Research and a school for Autistic children in Nottingham.

Over the course of the past few months I have received many extremely generous offers of support for my Bob Graham Round. The time has now come for me to finalise the logistics.

The plan is to depart Keswick for a clockwise round at midnight on Friday 20th / Saturday 21st July with the aim of finishing by 23:00 on Saturday 21st.

THIS DOES NOT CONFLICT WITH SNOWDON OR ANY OTHER SIGNIFICANT RACE.

What I am asking is would you like to take part, and if so, which leg(s) would you prefer?

Ideally I am looking for ten volunteers, one sherpa and a recorder on each leg, so pairs of volunteers would be ideal.

Accommodation in a large rented house (Grasmere or Keswick) along with transport to and from the start and finish of each leg will be arranged. All that you need to do is get up to the Lakes and be prepared to run for up to six hours over mountainous terrain in all possible weathers.
