Advance Notice – Thursday 18th March – Moonlighters Run

As an alternative to usual club training from Otley Cricket Club, a Moonlighters run, meeting at the Yorkshire Water car park, Fewston at 7.15pm is available to members. Obviously bring a torch and sensible attire. Needless to say participation is at an individual’s own risk.

Advance Notice – 2010 Harrogate League

Details of this year’s evening League Races are now available from the HDSRL website.

Please note that the first race at Ilkley has been moved forward to Thursday 29th April and is likely to count as a sealed Handicap race for the OAC Club Handicap Championship for the month.

The League is only open to participating Club members and as a thank you for all the help and support OAC members put into hosting OAC’s highly enjoyable League Race last year, the Club will be paying OAC members entry fees for this year.

To obtain a Series number, see Julian on a training night in order to sign the disclaimer and to receive your number.

Sunday 7th March- Club Handicap @ Harewood

After two of the last three handicaps have had to be cancelled because of the weather, bright sunny skies made a welcome change at Harewood for the 4.25 mile trail handicap.

Antonio just held off John to win his first handicap in almost three years, another 50 metres and the result would have been reversed. Despite struggling with recent injuries Zack recorded the fastest time of the day. Rachael lowered her own women’s record to 29:08 and it was good to see a few of our newer members running in their first handicap.

Matt Podd moves to the top of the handicap table just ahead of Rachael with early leader Carol in third.

Sunday 7th March – Haweswater Half Marathon

Perfect weather conditions and beautiful scenery enticed 517 finishers in this well organised race from Bampton (near Shap) down the east side of Haweswater and back.

The race was won by Dominic Raby (Chorley) in 74.07, pulling ahead of OAC’s Julian Mawson over the last 150 metres but Julian was very pleased to finish second (74.15).

OAC’s Scott Harrington (pictured) attempting his fourth Half Marathon was delighted to easily beat his previous personal best by finishing strongly over the second half of the race coming home sixth in 77.30.

OAC’s Mick Jeffrey was also pleased to improve on his York Brass Monkey time over such an undulating course finishing 66th (89.01).

Sunday 7th March – Norton 9 Miles

Results from ukresults show the race was won by Andrew Pearson (Longwood) in 44.13 and for OAC, Howard Jeffrey finished 127th (63.03).

Sunday 7th March – Leith Hill Half Marathon

Now having two small childen severely limits my racing schedule but I managed to arrange an entry to the Leith Hill Half Marathon in Surrey on the basis that we could combine it with a visit to my wife’s parents for the weekend, who live only a few miles from the North Downs.

Despite having to spend a weekend with my in-laws, this off-road half marathon incorporating 1,800′ of ascent up and down the highest hill in South East England, was a wonderful event.

I was very pleased to finish in 1hr 40 mins and 26th place out of I think about 300.

Saturday 6th March – Half Tour of Pendle

From clayton-le-moors-harriers, the race was won by Ian Holmes (Bingley) in 63.50.

For OAC, Laura Martin finished as third lady (and first LV40) in 90th position overall (86.10), Martin Smillie 164th (96.31), Sarah McBrinn 201st (105.54) and Liz Fawcett 213th (109.34).
