On Saturday the 4th of February, we travelled to Blackburn for an overnight stay before Jenson Brogden and Aston Brogden took on the Blackburn Winter Warmer 2 k Race the next day. The race was being held at Witton Park so on Saturday afternoon we ventured there to check out the race route. Happy that the boys knew the route, we headed out for a pub tea before an early night. On the Sunday the boys were keen to get back to Witton Park to collect their numbers and timing chips. There were over 200 Juniors in the race with lots of club runners. The race started on the athletics track before looping around the park and then finishing back on the track. The boys did us proud, Jenson Brogden was 6th and Aston Brogden was 12th. Otley got a mention as the boys ran in because all the other runners were local. The race was really well organised and everyone was so friendly! The venue was great and we were very jealous of the track!
On Sunday the 8th of January, Jenson Brogden took part in the 2 mile Fun Run at Garstang, part of the Garstang 10 k. The course was on open roads and tracked the first loop of the 10 k course. The 10 k runners set off and then ten minutes later the Fun run began. Jenson was feeling nervous after an Autumn/Winter of illness but got stuck in! The slower 10 k runners soon had Jenson and another bunch off runners on their tails and as he battled though the traffic, seniors and a tough hill, he came home strong in 2nd place. The winner was a boy much older and taller than Jenson, who on the last down hill just caught him and commented at the end how impressed he was with Jenson! A good confidence boost and a well organised race.
( No times, as only the 10 k results were recorded)
The South Yorkshire Indoor Series at the EIS in Sheffield began last weekend. The series consists of four different events and Juniors compete in track and field events in the following age groups- U11s/ U13s and U15s. This year Charlotte Rawstron and Jess Rawstron are the only Otley Juniors taking part but we wish them both well and look forward to hearing about their events.

What an exciting evening! After a few conversations, emails and texts we managed to get Jonny Brownlee down to an Otley Juniors training session. The Juniors were really excited and so were the Coaches and Parents! Jonny watched to begin with and then helped Russ and Andy with some coaching. Jonny made them work really hard and they loved it! We asked Jonny to join in with our relay race at the end and he rose to the challenge, much to the Juniors excitement! A question and answer session followed and then it was autograph and selfie time! The evening was amazing! Jonny you are welcome back anytime!
On a very wet and cold Sunday in November a small group of juniors got up early to take part in the Junior Abbey Dash. Hundreds of Juniors ran and the Otley Juniors did us really proud. Holly Davey was first home for Otley followed by Jenson Brogden who sadly ended up in the medical tent due to his bad chest and probably shouldn’t have run! Charlotte Rawston, Aston Brogden, Jess Rawstron and Charlotte Chambers came home strong and I believe this was the first time the Rawstron Girls and Charlotte had run the Junior Dash so a big WELL DONE to them.
