Virtual Fell Running Championships Race 2 Results

Virtual Fell Running Championships Race 2 Results

The second race in the virtual championship needed a distance of 8 miles with 1800ft ascent. 8 Otley runners completed the challenge in various locations such as Ilkley Moor, Simon’s Seat, Ingleborough and Great Whernside. The route had to include one ‘summit’ and limit the amount of road or good vehicle track so it felt like a proper fell race. Winner: James Appleton of Keswick AC in 52.26 1st Lady: Nichola Jackson Keswick in 1.01.05 For Otley: 69th Andrew Robertshaw…

Thursday 30th July – Liz Fawcett Leathley Handicap (Virtual)

Thursday 30th July – Liz Fawcett Leathley Handicap (Virtual)

Making the best of the current situation regarding groups of people meeting, the committee decided to give a ‘virtual’ handicap a go.  This meant club members could run the Leathley Handicap route at any time, within a 9 day period at the end of the month.   Judging by the numbers sending in times, this proved to be a popular alternative to the traditional handicap,  although I did have lots of comments regarding how hard they found Liz’s route 🙂 Hannah…

Retford Half Marathon – Sunday 8th March

Retford Half Marathon – Sunday 8th March

A great and welcome report by Tash Whitaker In these unusual times where we can’t run together and we are all in the house a lot more, I thought I’d do a report from the last Half Marathon that I’ll be doing for a while I reckon! I’d booked the Retford Half as a training race for the London Marathon as I’d done it a couple of years ago and know that it’s not too hilly so perfect preparation!  It’s also…

Friday 13 to Monday 16 March – Pooley Bridge training weekend

Friday 13 to Monday 16 March – Pooley Bridge training weekend

Report from Richard Hamer. “Was everything okay?” “No, it was horrible.” Wearing my journalist’s trilby, you never start a report with a quote; but we’re living in exceptional times and a certain unnamed someone was evidently not happy with their evening meal on the opening night of this year’s training weekend to Pooley Bridge, in the northern Lake District. For those in the dining room of the village’s Sun Inn, it provided a little light relief from the coronavirus that…

Sunday 15th March – Thirsk 10 mile

Sunday 15th March – Thirsk 10 mile

Report from Richard Smith After cancellation of the Bradford 10K I made a last minute call to run Thirsk 10. Fortunately, I was able to enter on the day. Despite the global pandemic, Thirsk decided to go ahead with the race following consultation with the Yorkshire Vet and England Athletics.  Given other race cancellations, it was a large and speedy field. Make no mistake, this is a fast, flat and scenic course. However, not the best conditions today in terms…
