Saturday 29th February: Sir Titus Trot leap year marathon

Saturday 29th February: Sir Titus Trot leap year marathon

Report from Rob Grant: There were lots of good reasons to enter this one: I fancied doing a low-key marathon as a pace-setting training run for the Ibiza marathon in April; the ‘Its Grim Up North’ events have a reputation for being fun and friendly affairs (with good cake!); it was local and reasonably priced; last but not least, there was half a chance of a podium place, depending on who turned up on the day. Spoiler alert: I won…

Sunday 1st March – Ilkley Moor Fell Race

Sunday 1st March – Ilkley Moor Fell Race

Report from Andrew Robertshaw: The 1st of March, Spring or not?  meteologically maybe, but there’s only a few signs at the moment, no mad march hares to be seen, (there you go Sharron!). The gnarled old fell runner version of the conditions on Sunday, would probably be along the lines of, “Aye there was a bit of a breeze“,  “a bit soft up there today“. A member of the general public would probably have had a different idea and stayed…

Sunday 23rd February – North East Marathon Club The Leas 6 x 6

Sunday 23rd February – North East Marathon Club The Leas 6 x 6

Report from Paul Tranter: The North East Marathon Club was set up to provide no frills, no fuss, low cost scenic marathons for local runners. Having previously run their Hamsterley Forest Marathon they certainly live up to that ethos. The runs are well organised, friendly and definitely affordable even the South Shields coast path is scenic, looking very different to when it hosts the finish to the Great North Run. The Leas 6 x 6 is essentially a 6 hour race run…

Sunday 23rd February – Settle Half Marathon

Sunday 23rd February – Settle Half Marathon

Report from Richard Smith Having decided to stay over in Settle for my birthday, I took part in the Settle Half Marathon organised by ‘Its Grim Up North Running’. The event organiser lived by their title as Storm Margaret, Keith or whatever the most recent one is called continued to vent it’s fury up in the Dales. An out and back course all run on road, I opted for the Half Marathon distance with a 10K and 10 miler starting…

Sunday 23rd February – Harewood 10k

Sunday 23rd February – Harewood 10k

Report from Martin Gaskin: A muddy (though not as bad as expected) and hilly (more hilly than I remember – and ALL uphill weirdly) 10k in the fantastic setting of Harewood and, during the course of the race at least, rain free. Vaseline essential though in the wind which remained strong and strangely always in the face despite the circular route. Often on very soggy grass, a little bit of downhill tarmac, and mostly trail with big puddles, 399 runners…

Sunday 23rd February – Midgley Moor Fell Race

Sunday 23rd February – Midgley Moor Fell Race

Report from Matt Podd: AS, 5 Miles, 1250ft Ascent. On a damp Sunday morning 3 old men (2 of whom had warmed up with a parkrun the day before) met up and set off in Colin’s car to a Fell Race. The in-car satnav took us on a devious route to surprisingly arrive at race HQ, Booth Cricket Club high above the Calder Valley. There we met up with Italian Fell legend, Antonio. Paid our £5 and got kit checked…
