Thursday 24th September – 3000m Handicap & Track ROY

Bob returned to form repeating his victory in the track handicap from last year,  but this time without any falling over incidents.   Mark recorded the fastest time of the night, gaining lots of runner of the year points.  Lee retains this lead in the Eric Smith Handicap trophy with a 6.5 lead over Paul Clifford with Michael Pickard moving up to third a further 13 points behind.  See the full table here. The next race is the Thruscross Handicap,   Saturday…

Saturday 21st September – Three Shires Fell Race

Saturday 21st September – Three Shires Fell Race

Report from Tom Lynch: Three Shires is the ‘easiest’ of the Lakeland Classics listed at 20 km/12.4 miles with 1220 m/4003 ft of climbing, it just comes in as an AL race (just don’t check Strava). The race starts from the Three Shires Inn in Little Langdale, and takes in the summits of Wetherlam, Swirl How, Pike of Blisco and Lingmoor via the Three Shires Stone, crossing Wrynose Pass. It shares a small section with the Langdale Horseshoe fell race and…

Sunday 22nd September – Sutton Park 10k

Report from Howard J This is a pleasant low key race that I have done regularly over the past few years (it is still a vestigial Otley AC targeted race but who knew that apart from me?). The heavy rain that many people experienced prior to the race never actually made it to Sutton so the conditions were borderline perfect (it got pretty warm I thought). I had struggled round last year in 54+ minutes so the target today was…

Sunday 22nd September 2019 – Rutland Multi Terrain Marathon

Sunday 22nd September 2019 – Rutland Multi Terrain Marathon

Report from Rob Grant I’d always had my eye on this one. Low-key, multi-terrain, undulating marathon on the doorstep of some good friends of ours, and this year the stars were sufficiently aligned for me to give it a go, despite not really having trained properly for it. With hindsight I can recommended it, if you like this kind of thing. The weather forecast was a hot topic in the build-up, with thundery downpours forecast from before the start to…

Saturday 21st September 2019 – One Foot in the Gargrave

Report from Tamara So it’s been a while since I’ve done, well, anything actually! My better half, Neil Charlton, suggested on Monday that we should do something this weekend, which turned out to be bumbling about 23 miles of beautifully undulating Dales countryside. The LDWA event organisation is top notch: these walkers have it all sussed, string to tie on a number tag and the plastic mug for a momento means it doesn’t matter if you’ve forgotten to BYO. No…

Saturday 21st September – Great Whernside

Saturday 21st September – Great Whernside

Report from the Hon. Handicapper: Kettlewell is a great place for running, surrounded by plenty of good hills  or for those who prefer it a bit flatter, good riverside paths, north to Buckden and beyond or south to Grassington.  With the two Autumn fell relays on the horizon the 4 mile/1500ft Great Whernside is a good warm up race with the added bonus of being a nominated fell runner of the year race. Four Black & Whites, myself, Adam Powell, Caron…

Runner of the month for June

Runner of the month for June

Slight (ahem) delay to this posting. Congratulations to Tom Lynch and Ryk Downes for getting the Runner of the Month prize for June. Tom realised a dream by completing the Bob Graham Round in under 24 hours (more like 20) and Ryk likewise completed his epic challenge of the Spine Fusion race covering the whole of the Pennine Way, 268 miles. The special mention goes to Sara Elliott for her shorter racing over the month; Eccup 10, Harrogate League and…

Saturday 14th September: Hodder valley show fell race

Saturday 14th September: Hodder valley show fell race

Report from Matt Podd BM 11 km with 500m ascent. I had done this race last year and enjoyed it – so back for more. Interestingly Hodder Valley Show rotates through three different venues, so three different fell race courses – a new one for me. Hodder Valley Show is in the Forest of Bowland, in Lancashire and a good local show, which was blessed with lovely weather this year. As I was trotting down to the start I was…
