Sunday 24th June – Bradford Millenium Way Relay

Sunday 24th June – Bradford Millenium Way Relay

Report from Tom Lynch: This year Otley managed to field another 2 teams for the Bradford Millenium Way relay (or BMW for short!). This is a 5 stage paired relay that as the name suggests runs around the Bradford Millennium footpath, starting at the Bradford & Bingley Sports club in Bingley with legs of between 8 and 11 miles. Leg 1 visits Penistone Country park from a start at Bingley, Leg 2 goes from Penistone to Laycock, Leg 3 Laycock-Silsden,…

Sunday 24th June – Staveley Stampede

Sunday 24th June – Staveley Stampede

Report from Howard Jeffrey: The Staveley Stampede is a 10k trail race which I last did in 2014. It is fairly low key (200 limit) and I had absolutely no recollections of the route apart from a quick descent at the finish. The start was a little confusing as the race briefing was undertaken and then the countdown from 5 to the gun but nobody really knew where the start line was and we were off. I did glimpse a tiny…

Sunday 24th June – Humber Bridge Half Marathon

Sunday 24th June – Humber Bridge Half Marathon

Report from Joanna Hobson This is the second time that I’ve entered this race and it must be one of the most convenient starts for me as my Mother in Law lives in Hessle at the foot of the Humber Bridge. No early morning rides across the M62, no planning the breakfast time and most importantly no joining the obligatory toilet queue, as I strolled up 10 minutes before the start of the race! I’d heard that Phil Robinson and…

Thursday 21st June – Beamsley Beacon Fell Race

Thursday 21st June – Beamsley Beacon Fell Race

Report from Tom Lynch: 5.5 Miles 1100ft : BS A great turnout at Beamsley Beacon fell race on a beautiful summer evening, for another counter in the 2018 Fell Runner of the Year competition. We had a full cross section of the club, from newer members, to club stalwarts, and following recent trends our women’s team was out in force. The race is another in the long list of well organised no-fuss Wharfedale races, £4 entry, a great route and…

Saturday 30th June – Eldwick Gala

Saturday 30th June – Eldwick Gala

Report from Phil Robinson Our terrific group of female fell-runners – and their male counterparts – must have had a better offer, so it was left to three elderly gentlemen to fly the black-and white flag at Eldwick. Don’t mention summer wine. We all finished in good spirit, the relentless Antonio announcing that he was off to Skiddaw the following day; I was pleased to finish ahead of Graham Breeze for once. Results: 1stReuben Mantle (Bingley) 18.27, 63rdPhil Robinson 29.33,…

Kettlewell BOFRA – 1.4m 600ft

This is a short and sharp, typically BOFRAish race. The juniors had fun slipping and sliding down the grass and scree before us seniors got to join in the fun. The race was won by Simon Bailey in 11.31, with Sophie Horrocks 1st Lady in 14.46 For Otley: Graham Lake 27th 15:12 Simon Quinn 56th 18:10 (2nd ever fell race) James Rawstron 84th 21:18 Antonio Cardinale 98th 36:39 (2nd fell race of the weekend) 98 ran/walked/slipped/fell

Sunday 17th June – Pudsey 10k

Sunday 17th June – Pudsey 10k

Report from Howard This race is a very undulating multi terrain race and last year the weather was blistering. Today the forecast was for 14 degrees which is much more conducive to faster running. Just before the start the sun came out and it was pretty hot. I had opted for the black vest and regretted not having the white one. My race reports have been fewer because I have been concentrating on duathlon and triathlon qualifying races for World…

Sunday 17th June – Pontefract 10k

Sunday 17th June – Pontefract 10k

Report from Phil R It’s 20 years since I ran in the 10k organised by Pontefract Hospital’s League of Friends; on Sunday there was a new Pontefract 10k promoted by the Prince of Wales’ Trust. The route was out-and-back along closed roads just south of the racecourse. Good points – plenty of parking space close to the start and finish, aerobics session immediately before starting (see drone video on pontefract10k facebook page), well-marshalled course, chip timing; not so good –…
