Saturday 4th May – Up The Odda Multi Terrain 10k

Saturday 4th May – Up The Odda Multi Terrain 10k

Report from Joanna Hobson An excellent turnout from the black and whites (both senior and juniors) for this local MT 10k. A lovely scenic 2 lap route takes you from Hawksworth down through the woods at Highroyds, up the Odda and repeat! There’s also the option for a 5k duo race with Caron Ralph/ Hayley Galvin, and James Rawstron/Carmel Gallagher representing Otley. Richard Smith led Otley from the start and finished in 7th position overall in an amazing time of…

Thursday 2nd May – ITU world aquathlon championships Pontevedra

Thursday 2nd May – ITU world aquathlon championships Pontevedra

Report from Howard Rather like public transport you seem to wait for ages then two come along at once. Here as promised is the second of my reports from the recent world championships, this time the aquathlon which was 1000m swim followed by a 5k run. Several years ago I made the mistake of not doing an open water swim before I raced one. When I got in the water that time, not only was it like I had never…

Thursday 2nd May – Dick Hudsons Fell Race

Thursday 2nd May – Dick Hudsons Fell Race

Report from Matt First evening race of the year for many of us. This 7 mile race with 1100ft of ascent is organised by Wharfedale Harriers and goes from Ilkley over the moor to the Dick Hudson pub and back again. A steep ascent onto the moor and then very runnable, with a good descent to the finish. A damp night, but not too bad. Interesting this year in that a large bunch at the front of the field went…

Sunday 28th April – Blackpool Marathon

Sunday 28th April – Blackpool Marathon

Report from Phil Robinson When I was a kid the industrial towns of Lancashire had “Wakes Weeks” – a fortnight each summer when all the cotton mills, businesses, factories and offices closed down and the whole workforce went on holiday. Family summers from 1948-1952 involved a week’s stay in a Blackpool B&B, so my earliest holiday memories are of the beach, the tower and the trams, Al Read and Stan Stennet in variety shows on the piers, Charlie Cairoli at…

Sunday 28th April 2019 – London Marathon

Report from Mary Hampshire When my name was pulled out of the hat for one of the club’s two ballot places in the London Marathon, I felt as though I’d won the lottery! It was such a great feeling to run such a milestone marathon for a second time, given that I grew up in Romford, in the London Borough of Havering, and to catch up with some childhood friends during my stay. I was thrilled to achieve a personal…

Sunday 28th April – Blakey Blitz Fell Race

Sunday 28th April – Blakey Blitz Fell Race

Report from Matt Podd A facebook post by Colin tempted 4 of us to enter this race (rather than the 3 peaks, London Marathon or Fellsman!). This is an AM Fellrace in the North York Moors, covering 10.5 miles with about 2500ft of climbing. Steve Robinson and I were chauffeured to the start at The Lion Inn by Colin Best were we met Sharron Smith. Nice weather when we set off from Otley, but distinctly chilly and claggy on arrival….

Saturday 27th April – ITU world sprint duathlon Pontevedra

Report from Howard Remember those weeks when you knew there was something missing but could not quite work out what. Well it is the race reports from yours truly and here is one to put that to rights. Sprint duathlon 27th April. I got to the start line in reasonable shape for the world championships although I had selected the sprint rather than the standard as there had been highs and lows in the run up period which you are…

Saturday 27th April – Three Peaks Fell Race

Report from Graham Lake 27th April – Three Peaks Fell Race – 23 Miles, 5000ft Ascent This was my 4th time of doing the Three Peaks fell race, after a gap of 4 years, and it was as tough as I remembered. The forecast had been pretty bad: blutery winds, freezing on the tops and rain, but on the morning it wasn’t too bad, there was even some sun. Otley had entered 10 runners, with 9 making the startline after…
