Runner of the Month – October

Runner of the Month – October

Another close call in the Runner of the Month decision this month means that the ladies award goes to both Rachael Wright and Lizzie Irvine for their performances and participation in the Hodgson Brothers and British Fell Relay Championships. In the Hodgson Relay it was Rachael’s first Lakeland fell race, and she took it on in terrible weather conditions which led to re-routing of the race, and a bit of organisational stress. Similarly Lizzie took on the daunting challenge of…

Sunday 12th Nov – Run Bolton Abbey

Sunday 12th Nov – Run Bolton Abbey

Race Report from Rob Fearnley A glorious autumn day greeted the 1600 entrants for the inaugural Run Bolton Abbey event on Sunday which was organised by the brilliant folks at Sue Ryder Manorlands hospice. Such was the level of interest that the races were postponed by 15 minutes to allow everyone to get parked up outside the Cavendish Pavilion and collect their numbers. Following an impeccably observed minutes silence for Remembrance Sunday the 10k evcent finally got under way at…

Sun 12th Nov – Tatton Half Marathon

Musings (her words!) from Laura Hind It was back to the Homeland (Cheshire) for Tatton Half Marathon, one of a few races I’d entered at the start of the summer when running had been going well and I was feeling in fine fettle. Fast forward a few months which had blighted by a few bouts of illness and therefore patchy training – I was not confident that I was going to end my racing year with a good performance. However, …

Saturday 11th November – Burley Moor Run

Saturday 11th November – Burley Moor Run

Report from Tom Lynch: An enormous turnout for Otley for the penultimate fell league counter of the year with, 16 Otley runners making the start line. The weather started out nice, and got even better during the race I think, with a cloudless autumn sky. The Burley Moor Run is a race attached (just about) to the Burley Summer Festival, perhaps it’s not muddy enough in the summer and there’s too much bracken! It runs from Scalebor Park in Burley,…

Sunday 5th November – Guy Fawkes 10

Sunday 5th November – Guy Fawkes 10

Report from Billy Rayner Blue skies and sunshine greeted the Otley contingent that travelled to Ripley for the Guy Fawkes 10 although it was rather chilly. After a mile running through the woods we were able to run on roads where the congestion eased and we could get into our stride. The course followed the usual inclines (Birstwith Brute, Swincliffe Swine and For Fawkes Sake) going through the villages of Birstwith, Tang and Hampsthwaite before heading back through the woods…

Sunday 5th November – Abbey Dash 10k

Sunday 5th November – Abbey Dash 10k

This years Abbey Dash took me back to where it all started. Back in 2007 I was signed up for a corporate team and spent about 4 months pounding up and down the A65 trying to regain some fitness after the excesses of Uni and years of no exercise. I came over the line in 45 mins 50 secs that day. Fast forward to 2017 and I’m back on the start line. After a less than satisfying summer of running…

Saturday 4th November – Shepherds Skyline

Saturday 4th November – Shepherds Skyline

Richard Hamer writes: As 2017 draws to a close, the club’s inaugural fell race championship is hotting up with less than one point separating Antonio and Don Buffham. The latest round saw both contenders along with fourth placed Tom Lynch turn out for the Shepherds Skyline race, a firm favourite on the fell calendar. Held at Lumbutts, near Todmorden, this category BS race involves two climbs adding up to 350m of ascent over 10km. While the weather was dry, the…

Sunday 29th October – West Yorkshire Cross Country League, Nunroyd Park, Guiseley

Sunday 29th October – West Yorkshire Cross Country League, Nunroyd Park, Guiseley

Round two of the West Yorkshire Cross Country League saw the usual suspects turn out for OAC at Nunroyd Park, Guiseley. A crisp sunny day greeted the runners, as did claggy ground and a slightly amended course than in previous years thanks to the section near rear of the park being removed. In the ladies’ race, Victoria Stainburn was 24th in 23:36 and Laura McCabe was 40th in 24:32. The winner was Georgia Malir (Leeds City) in 20:25. In the men’s…
