Saturday 12th to Wednesday 16th May: The Northern Traverse

Saturday 12th to Wednesday 16th May: The Northern Traverse

Report from Sarah Fuller The northern traverse is a 192 mile race along wainwrights coast to coast route- starting in St bees and finishing in Robin Hoods bay. It is a continuous format (so although you can stop and sleep, rest or eat as long as you like the clock is always ticking. The 111 hour (4 days 15 hours) cut off is generous but doesn’t allow for too much much faffing about! I entered this race thinking it would…

Sunday 13th May – Bluebell Trail

Sunday 13th May – Bluebell Trail

Report from John Davis: I was first alerted to the existence of this run in 2012, and this is the fourth time I’ve run it, so it’s obviously something of a favourite – in fact, it’s probably one of my top three runs at all.  It’s 10 miles of wildly varying terrain, starting in a small park and taking in, in order, bluebell woods, canal towpath, road running, the mighty Trooper Lane hill, moorland, farmland, more bluebell woods, more canal-side, a…

Sunday 13th May – Leeds Half Marathon

Sunday 13th May – Leeds Half Marathon

Report from Matt: I haven’t run a road half Marathon for 7 years (Bridlington) and I’d only done three before. However when Sarah Belt and Donna (from improver’s) said they were tempted; I rashly said if you do so will I! The weather forecast was for rain, but  I got up to sun on Sunday morning and picked up Sarah, Donna and President Billy and drove to Leeds to park at Billy’s work, and use their toilets. A big do…

Sunday 13th May – Ripon 10

Sunday 13th May – Ripon 10

Report from Howard: here was a time the dates of Leeds half marathon and Ripon 10 did not clash and you were able to do both testing races. I usually stick with the race that has kept its usual date and miss the one that changed because a training/racing plan is sacrosanct right? Well this year I was not prepared to fork out the required £37.40 to enter the biggest (and therefor the best?) half marathon in Yorkshire. They did…

Saturday 12th May – Fairfield fell race

Saturday 12th May – Fairfield fell race

Report from Tom Lynch: After a recce of this race a couple of weeks ago with Sharron Smith and Rogan Ashton, Laura McCabe and I headed up to Fairfield to race this popular fell race on a nice hot day without a cloud in the sky. This was a bit of a difference from the recce where we nearly go lost on the Fairfield summit! We were joined by Chris Brunold from Otley, unfortunately there were no spaces left for…

Runners of the Month – April

Runners of the Month – April

The Runners of the Month for April were: John Armitstead for another superb time at the Three Peaks race around Penyghent, Whernside and Ingleborough; and Rebecca Keinhorst (sorry I couldn’t find a picture on the website) for a great PB run at Vale of York 10 mile race. A special mention also this month to Tash Whitaker for all her hard fundraising work and efforts in the sweltering London Marathon.

Tuesday 8th May – Jack Bloor Fell Race Distance: 8.4km / 5.2m Climb: 350m / 1148ft

Report from Graham Lake: With the end to the heatwave came the Jack Bloor fell race, an annual run raising money for the Jack Bloor fund for aspiring outdoor athletes. There were the usual junior races with a good turnout of young black and whites before the seniors lined up. The route goes straight up from the usual grass near Darwin Gardens in Ilkley, straight up to the right of the stream (or left if you think that’s faster) and…

Saturday 5th May – Up the Odda 10k

Saturday 5th May – Up the Odda 10k

Report from Joanna Hobson Following a change of route for 2018,  Over the Odda became Up the Odda (twice!). A fabulous, well organised, very local trail race starting from Hawksworth and going over towards Menston and back. Two laps of undulating farm land, trail paths, woods and up the Odda made for quite a challenging race in the heat of the sun. A good contingent from Otley AC made the short trip to Hawksworth, with Graham Lake and Jackie Ackroyd…
