April 15th – 30th – Menston Handicap

April 15th – 30th – Menston Handicap

333 club handicaps over 35 years and Carol and Don became the first joint winners over the new 5.4 mile Menston route.   I don’t about anyone else but I found it hard work back up to the finish from the railway on.  On the final day and for a few minutes only, a returning to form Tom Paget had the fastest time, only to be over taken by Toby Fisher.  Sara Elliott had the fastest ladies time. It’s still very…

Racebest 10k – Elvington Airfield Sunday 25th April

Racebest 10k – Elvington Airfield Sunday 25th April

Report from Phil Robinson This qualified as a race – chip times taken, results published, prizes offered (sent by post, no hanging around after the event) – but was run as a time trial. We queued up, socially distanced, to start, then ran one short and two long laps of the runway circuit. Flat, but unrelentingly boring. Still, it was another bright clear morning and great to be able to join in a competitive event. Having checked the national rankings…

Abraham Tea Round – 23rd April 2021

Abraham Tea Round – 23rd April 2021

Report by Graham Lake: 23rd April – Abraham (or George Fisher) Tea Round   Not a race, but a timed challenge that I agreed to do with Fellandaler Paul Heeley (probably after a beer). From the George Fisher website: “George Fisher’s Tea Round is a 30 mile route with 12,000+ feet of ascent that starts and finishes at the doors of George Fisher in Keswick. Launched in 2017, the Tea Round is the brain child of former George Fisher staff…

Saturday 24th April – Endeavour 10k

Saturday 24th April – Endeavour 10k

Report from Richard Smith : After a bit of a pacing disaster at Wigan Fast 5K, I travelled up to Middlesbrough on Sunday to take part in the Graded Endeavour 10K. The route compromised of 10 laps of a closed road circuit. Brilliant experience to be in a field compromising of the likes of Lewis Gamble-Thompson, Aly Dixon and Mary Ngugi (who ran an inspiring 31:41 and interestingly didn’t wear a watch). Not a PB for me but I was…

Saturday 17th April – Burnsall half-marathon trail race

Saturday 17th April – Burnsall half-marathon trail race

Report from Phil Robinson: In the depths of winter I entered this race, mainly to have a target for the spring; fortunately it was a bright clear day, the course was really well marked and marshalled, the going dry underfoot, do only the hills to complain about. Two major climbs – the first from the Wharfe up to the moor above Troller’s Gill, back down to the river then up again to Dibble’s Bridge on the Grassington-Greenhow road, and back…

18th – 31st January – Eric Smith Handicap Trophy – Weston Lane

18th – 31st January – Eric Smith Handicap Trophy – Weston Lane

The Eric Smith handicap Trophy for 2021 started with the 2 lap Weston Lane route.  We last used this route back in 2001, so it would give the older members a perfect chance to see how much we’ve slowed in 20 years 😂  In fact there were 6 of us still going who’d previously done this handicap, Myself, Carol & John Armitstead, Phil Robinson, Mick Jeffrey & Antonio. 2018 handicap trophy winner Bob came home in first 25 seconds ahead…
